The Liberty Education Foundation's Spotlight Award highlights the most impactful, innovative, and reproducible grants from the school year, and our Spotlight Grant provides funding for the projects to be implemented in other LPS schools!
We are excited to announce that Denise Streenstra, PE teacher at Liberty Oaks, and Ashley McPheeters and Christine Pavlich, First Grade co-teachers at Warren Hills, are recipients of our Spotlight Award! Their grant projects impressed us with their simplicity and impact on students. These teachers received an award to invest in their learning environments to continue enriching educational experiences for their students! Congrats Denise, Ashley, and Christine!
2021-2022 SPOTLIGHT GRANT
We are proud to introduce our new Spotlight Grant! To be eligible 2021-2022 Spotlight Grant, you must be a First Grade teacher or elementary PE teacher. If you are one these, continue reading to learn about the opportunity to receive funding for these projects.
Make sure to watch the videos! If you are interested in implementing Play Based Learning or All Kids Bike in your classroom/gym, complete the brief application form by May 13. Applications will be evaluated in a blind review by the Foundation’s Program Committee. Recipients will be announced on Friday, May 20!

Play based learning | 1st grade teachers
Ashley McPheeters and Christine Pavlich used a basic playstand and supplies to give their 1st graders a fun and engaging interdisciplinary learning space! Supplies include a cash register, pantry products, doctor kit, dress up vests, tools and aprons.

Click here for the brief application form! If your application is selected for funding, the Foundation will provide funding for the playstand, cash register and a variety of supplies recommended by Ashley and Christine (value up to $500)!
All Kids bike | PE teachers
Denise Steenstra, Liberty Oaks Elementary, received funding for the All Kids Bike program: a fleet of 24 Strider balance bikes, pedal kits and 8-week curriculum to teach kindergarteners to ride a bike! She loves this program because of its impact on her students and shares her enthusiasm in the video below.
If you are interested in bringing All Kids Bike to your school, chat with your building principal and find out if you have space to store 2 racks of bikes. Then complete the brief application form. Applications are due May 13 and recipients will be announced on May 20. If your application is selected for funding, you will receive a fleet of 24 Strider balance bikes, helmets, curriculum, and two storage racks made by LPS woodworking students! The value of this program is $5,000 plus the storage racks, all covered by the Liberty Education Foundation.
